The pumpkins bask
in late September light
Staved like whiskey barrels
packed full of seeds for roasting
Pie filling in the making
Assembled neon glow is so bright
carrots and tigers just can't compete
Pumpkins spread so large and plentiful
squash and gourds pray
for a pumpkin plague
In October the plague arrives
in the form of long sharp knives
that carve out strange hideous faces
And with the aid of a flickering candle
the pumpkins enjoy the final laugh
